Who is Ella Baker?

She became one of the leading figures of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950's and '60s. Following her early work for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, she also helped launch the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee. Sadly Baker passed away in 1986 but still remains a great inspiration to all. A famous motivational Ella Baker quote was “The major job was getting people to understand that they had something within their power that they could use, and it could only be used if they understood what was happening and how group action could counter violence…”, attempting to empower herself and others.
